Rafael Nadal, who has reached the final at Acapulco, said that he will not play Davis Cup against Serbia, April 7-9.

The 14-time Grand Slam champion said that after playing at Indian Wells and Miami in March, his body will need to rest.

“Playing it would not have been the best preparation ahead of a clay-court season that is even more important for me every year,” Nadal said.

“After Acapulco, I will play in Indian Wells and Miami, then I will have two weeks off to prepare the most important part of the season for me,” he added. “All the tournaments that I play are important, but it’s clear that Monte Carlo and Roland Garros are even more important.”

The world No. 6 has not won a Grand Slam since 2014.

Having reaching the Australian Open final, where he went down against Roger Federer in five long sets, he withdrew from Rotterdam because he needed a longer break. Nadal began Acapulco with a taped knee, but has since removed it.

“It's doing well,” he said. “I didn't bandage it because I thought that there wouldn't be any problem.”
