Grigor Dimitrov was having a great streak at the start of 2017, winning two titles (Brisbane and Sofia) and reaching the semifinals of the Australian Open. However, his luck ran out during his second round match against Guido Pella in the Miami Open.

The world No. 13 couldn't find his form during the straight set loss, which the Argentinian took full advantage of, winning 6-3, 7-6 (4). This is the first time that Pella has made it to the third round in Miami and will face Frenchman Nicholas Mahut.

Rafael Nadal had better luck, defeating Israeli player Dudi Sela in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4. The Spaniard has won 28 Masters titles in his career, with Miami being a major one missing from his collection. He will face Philip Kohlschreiber in the third round.

On the women's side, Garbine Muguruza had to claw her way back to victory after dropping the first set 0-6 in her second round match against American Christina McHale. After barely winning the second set tiebreaker, 7-6 (6), the world No. 6 finished off her opponent 6-4 in the third. She will take on the 30th seed Zhang Shuai next.
