World No. 1 Andy Murray says the Novak Djokovic and Andre Agassi pairing could help the Serb and increase interest in the game.

"To be helped by Andre, it's definitely a positive thing for Novak and it's good for tennis," Murray told *AFP*. "When the great players of tennis stay in the sport, it creates lots of interest."

Djokovic announced a few days ago that he is officially working with Agassi, having split with his team following Monte Carlo because of his poor recent showings.

Murray, like many others, saw the high-profile appointment as a surprise.

"I don't know the details of their agreement," Murray said. "But I know that Andre is a man who is very, very busy. It was a little surprising because I didn't think he would decide one day to become a coach."

Agassi has indicated that the coaching arrangement is currently limited to the French Open, and that he would not be interested in a full-time position.

Djokovic's previous coaching consultant, Boris Becker, said he is still in contact with Djokovic and his former team and was not surprised.

"I've heard the name for a while," he told *The Guardian*. "I applaud the decision."

Becker and Agassi were frequent rivals on the court, and Becker was confident that Agassi's stature and approach to the game would have a positive impact on Djokovic.

"I think it's an excellent fit," he said. "Ideally, I would have liked them to start in Monte Carlo, and not for the first tournament to be Roland Garros.

"But ... I think this could be a winning combination."

Djokovic and Agassi have both been on site at Roland Garros, holding their first practice session.
