Each day of the tournament, we'll preview and predict three must-see matches at the French Open.

If it’s Murray and Delpo, it has to be epic. Last year the Scot and the Argentine split two marathon matches: Murray won their gold-medal final at the Olympics in four long sets; Del Potro won their Davis Cup semifinal face-off in five longer sets. This time neither will come in at their best. Murray has been off his game all season, while Del Potro continues to struggle with injuries and unlucky draws. But put these old junior rivals together and sparks should fly. Murray leads their head to head 6-3.

Winner: Murray

Each of these women has won an important clay-court event this spring: The 20-year-old Kasatkina’s came in Charleston, the 25-year-old Halep’s in Madrid. But while Halep followed up that performance with a trip to the Rome final, Kasatkina hasn’t been the same since. She lost in the first rounds in Stuttgart, Madrid and Rome before finally snapping her losing streak in Paris. Will that be enough to make her believe she can take on the Romanian, who is ranked 24 spots above her? Halep won their only meeting, in straight sets, last year in Miami.

Winner: Halep

The French fans should be pleased: They don’t have to choose a favorite, and this time they can’t lose. Monfils and Gasquet are two of the most talented and exciting players the country has ever produced, and two of the most historically disappointing. Monfils is the athlete and Gasquet is the stylist, and neither has gained much of an edge on the other since they first squared off 13 years ago. Monfils leads their head to head 7-6 and is currently ranked six spots higher at No. 17, but Gasquet has won their last two matches. Whatever nation you’re from, this late-afternoon Chatrier showcase is one to sit back and enjoy.

Winner: Monfils
