Coach Lindsay Davenport shares thoughts on Madison Keys' US Open run

Madison Keys is "going to be just fine," her friend and opponent, Sloane Stephens, said following her dominant victory in the final of the US Open.

Her coach, Lindsay Davenport, agrees.

The 22-year-old Keys won just three games in the final, but getting that far was still a significant accomplishment for the American, especially following two recent wrist surgeries.

"She knew it was a great opportunity, and she just had nothing left in the tank. So she was pretty upset," Davenport said during a press conference at the tournament.

But Davenport is instead looking at the amount Keys has "improved and changed and matured" since returning to the tour during the grass-court season. Keys also won Stanford and reached the semifinals of Cincinnati before her run at Flushing Meadows.

"I have to say, everybody around her is so happy for her," said Davenport. "Obviously, as I told her, one match changes nothing. Everything that you have done or are doing these last three months are going to put you in a position to have another opportunity for that chance."

Keys will eventually see that too, she added.

"We are leaving here [with] me thrilled [and] sad, but thrilled for her and excited for the future," said Davenport. "I think it will take her a few days, or maybe a week, or maybe two weeks. I don't know. She'll be OK."

Keys is up to No. 12 in the rankings.
