NBA player Dirk Nowitzki drew tennis players and other celebrities to his two-day Pro Celebrity Tennis Classic in Dallas this week.
Current and former pros included Andy Roddick, Tommy Haas, Mark Knowles, Michael Russell, Donald Young and Benjamin Becker, who recently announced his retirement. They were joined by NBA and NHL players, actor Owen Wilson and other participants.
Proceeds from the event will benefit areas in Texas that have been affected by recent hurricane damage and flooding, with team owner Mark Cuban pledging to double total contributions up to $2 million.
"The city has been hit really hard, but the community has done a great job of coming together," the ATP website quoted the Houston-based Russell saying.
"They already starting the rebuilding efforts, but I want to help in any way that I can. This makes it extra special for me to be here and help out the Houstonians that are working hard to get back to a little bit of normalcy."
