No. 1 Rafael Nadal says he is eager to keep playing on tour, and will adjust to a new coaching setup with Carlos Moya taking the reins.
Nadal brought in former No. 1 Moya as an additional coach before the beginning of this year, and won Roland Garros and the US Open again—his first major victories since 2014.
“Carlos brought some positive energy for me. Our way of practicing changed, we trained on some more specific aspects,” Nadal told El Espanol. “When there is a new person, it's also easier to listen because it's different.”
There will now be more changes as the Spaniard's longtime coach, his uncle Toni, won’t travel much with him following this season. Nadal's other coaches, Moya and Francisco Roig, will still work with him, but neither of them can be with him at every tournament.
“We will have a different setup," Nadal said. "We shouldn't forget that Carlos has kids and can't travel for many weeks and Francis works, so he is not available all the time. But I am sure that if I need Toni for some time, he can come with me.”
This week, Nadal will play in the ATP tournament in Beijing, China.
