Rafael Nadal would not commit to playing his next two scheduled tournaments in Basel and Paris, but played down concerns about his knee following the Shanghai final.

The Spaniard played-back-to-back weeks in Beijing (which he won) and Shanghai, and was wearing tape on his knee during his 6-4, 6-3 defeat to Federer. The day before, he angrily hit his racquet twice against his then-untaped knee.

"I don't want to talk about that now," Nadal told press at Shanghai. "[It] is not the moment. I am not worried though."

Asked about playing Basel and Paris, Nadal was also equivocal.

"I don't know," he said. "I need to think about it."

Federer said he had seen the tape but had not noticed any significant effect on Nadal's movement during their match.

Federer is likely to play his hometown event at Basel, traditionally an important tournament for him, but has also previously said he will hold off in deciding whether to play the following week in Paris.

Federer's Shanghai victory means he is still contending for the No. 1 ranking position, currently held by Nadal, with a lead of 1,960 points. Either could still earn a maximum of 3,000 points this season.

The three events still on their schedules are Basel, Paris and the Nitto ATP Finals.
