Garbine Muguruza wraps up coaching trial with Conchita Martinez

Garbine Muguruza has completed her coaching trial with Conchita Martinez and will return to working with Sam Sumyk, Martinez has announced.

Muguruza had brought on Martinez to help her from Doha to Miami. The pair had first worked together at Wimbledon, where Muguruza won her second Grand Slam title.

Martinez said it had been "great to work" with Muguruza, but the world No. 3 had decided to "go back to working with her full[-]time coach" following their collaboration.


Muguruza reached the Doha final and the semifinals of Dubai with the Spanish Grand Slam champion by her side. The pair was rejoined by Sumyk starting at Indian Wells, where Muguruza fell in the opening round and then reached the fourth round at Miami.

Muguruza is playing next week's WTA event at Monterrey.
