The low-key pairing of Tim Puetz and Jan-Lennard Struff found themselves firmly in the spotlight following their five-set Davis Cup doubles victory against the more established Spanish team of Marc and Feli Lopez.

The German pair dropped a two-set lead but came back to win in four hours and 39 minutes. Struff, ranked No. 60 in singles and No. 50 in doubles, called it the type of contest that inspires to players compete, saying, "It's one of the best matches of my career for sure."

Ranked below the top 300 in singles and No. 120 in doubles, Puetz has spent most of his career playing at the lower levels of the tour. "That is why the Davis Cup is always a special occasion for me, and I try to enjoy it," he said.

But the 30-year-old, who had knee problems that led to surgery in 2015, had won two straight Challengers in doubles coming into the Davis Cup quarterfinal.

And their win was a third straight for Puetz and Struff in Davis Cup, following victories against the Australians in the first round and Portugal in the playoffs in 2017 -- all in five sets.

Having now announced themselves as a team to watch, their next win won't be considered such a surprise -- especially if it's in five sets.
