LONDON—Angelique Kerber is back in the Grand Slam winner's circle, and this time, she wants to use her experience to help stay there.

Kerber won two Grand Slams and reached No. 1 ranking in 2016 but fell sharply in the rankings in 2017, not winning any titles. Now, having just won Wimbledon, she says she'll do things a little differently.

"I think taking a little more time for myself. Because in 2016 I didn't have time to realize what I did," Kerber told a small group of journalists following her victory. "Now I know what to expect."

As Kerber has said before, she was not equipped for the attention and demands that followed her ascent to the No. 1 ranking.

"I was enjoying it but I was not experienced," the 28-year-old German said. "It was completely too much for me.

"I've learned from this thing to say sometimes no. Not every day doing media and things, taking some days for yourself."

That will start with a longer than planned vacation.

"I will for sure take more days now because it's a lot,'' she said.

Kerber also began the season with a smaller title victory at the WTA event in Sydney.
