Naomi Osaka has become one of the sport's top emerging names since winning the US Open, but says not a lot has changed for her.

Osaka's win against Serena Williams in a controversy-filled final vaulted her into public prominence, and she has produced solid performances in her subsequent events to qualify for the WTA Finals in Singapore this week.

"I mean, with the recognition part, I do feel a bit different. Like before it was only Japan I felt like people know me. But now like even here, I guess this is Asia, too, though, so it doesn't really count, but like in the airports and stuff. And, yeah, I just think that that's kind of funny," she said, speaking to press at Singapore. "Like, for me, it's always a little bit surprising when people know who I am."

But the shy and engaging Osaka also says the attention won't change her into a "robot with the yes-and-no questions"—she doesn't want other people's opinions to affect the way she behaves.

"So I haven't really thought about changing my personality," Osaka said.

Osaka plans to reflect more on her accomplishments during the offseason.

The No. 4, who won her first WTA tournament this season at Indian Wells, is also now one of the top sports names in Japan and experiencing a huge increase in sponsorship earnings. But she's not concentrating on that either.

"For me, I'm just more thinking about my next match and my next tournament," she said.

Osaka plays Sloane Stephens in her first round robin encounter in Singapore.
