Galo Blanco is planning to stop coaching Dominic Thiem as he begins a new Davis Cup role.

The Spanish coach was appointed as Thiem's co-coach in 2017, but is now on the Davis Cup executive committee. Blanco, speaking to Spanish press, said he "cannot keep doing both, so I will not keep coaching Thiem."

Thiem will still have longtime coach Gunter Bresnik.

The 25-year-old Austrian reached his first Grand Slam final this season at the French Open, falling to Nadal, then took Nadal to five sets in what he called his "first really epic" match at the quarterfinals of the US Open.

Next week, he will be the home favorite at the ATP event in Vienna.

Thiem, who is No. 7 in the current ATP ranking, will be the second seed.
