Simona Halep has confirmed Thierry Van Cleemput as her new coach

The two worked together for a trial run during the Australian Open.

Simona Halep has confirmed Thierry Van Cleemput as her new coach following a trial period.

Halep started working with Van Cleemput during the Australian Open, following the Belgian coach's split with David Goffin.

"It was very good, practice was good, we started the collaboration and we will work together," she told Romanian press. "Of course, it is something new, something different—it will not be easy, but everything should be fine."

Halep was looking for a new coach following Darren Cahill's decision to stop travelling on tour. The 26-year-old reached the fourth round of the Australian Open, falling to Serena Williams.

Halep, who was No. 1 coming into the Australian Open, is No. 3 in the rankings.
