There's no denying that early March is all about Indian Wells, an event Serena Williams would love to win.

The 23-time Grand Slam champion has yet to win a tournament since returning to the game from childbirth last year at Indian Wells. She came close in 2018, reaching finals at Wimbledon and the US Open. Both times she was unable to cross the finish line, losing to Angelique Kerber in London and Naomi Osaka in Flushing Meadows.

But in reaching two majors in her mid-to-late 30s, Williams showed that she is still capable of playing at a championship level. She's knocking on the winner's circle once again, which is something that has fueled her comeback. Williams wants nothing more than to win another Grand Slam title, which would equal Margaret Court's record total of 24. If there remains any doubt as who the greatest women's player of all time is, another Serena Slam title—11 of Court's major championships were won before the Open era—would end the discussion.

So while you watch Williams competing in the desert, she'll be itching to end her title drought. But Williams has won plenty of Premier-level tournaments before. This is just another tournament to make her presence felt and sharpen her skills heading into June's French Open, where she hopes to end her major title drought.
