Sam Querrey reached his second quarterfinal of the season after a straight-set win over Guillermo Garcia-Lopez at the US Men's Clay Court Championships in Houston, Texas.

Querrey, who was ranked No. 11 just over a year ago, has seen his ranking drop drastically to No. 71. He has failed to reach a Grand Slam fourth round since reaching US Open quarterfinals in 2017—he made his first Grand Slam semifinal in Wimbledon that year. Recently, he started working full time with coach Vahe Assadourian.

"We're trying to implement a very aggressive mindset," Querrey said. "We're doing some of the basics with footwork. It's just kine of starting from scratch and trying to get things going."

The American plays Janko Tipsarevic, who reached his first quarterfinal since 2016, for a spot in the semifinal.
