According to Rafael Nadal's uncle and former coach, Toni Nadal, the 18-time Grand Slam champion has a legitimate shot to win Wimbledon.

The 33-year-old just captured his 12th French Open title, and has twice completed the clay-grass double at Wimbledon, defeating Roger Federer in 2008 and Tomas Berdych in 2010.

“When I talked with him on Sunday, I told Rafa, ‘I think you have the possibility to win Wimbledon this year again’,” Toni, Nadal's coach from the beginning of his career until he stopped traveling on Tour in 2018,  was quoted by Abu Dhabi National stating. “Last year he was very close, I think he had the possibility to win and I want to hope that this year will be possible."

Currently, Nadal is coached by Carlos Moya and Francisco Roig. But Toni, who is now involved with the Rafael Nadal Academy in Mallorca, still occasionally helps Nadal and says he should be motivated to compete in a tough field.

"I know Federer is there, [Novak] Djokovic is there, Dominic [Thiem], many good players, but I think that Rafael has the possibility, because it’s impossible to work well, without confidence," said Toni. "So he has to think that.”

Nadal, who withdrew from Queens, will not play any official events beforehand.
