Simona Halep says she's taking a different—but no less successful—approach to her career now she's achieved "everything I wanted in tennis."

The 27-year-old is coming off a title at Wimbledon, her second Grand Slam victory. She said her goal had been to win a Grand Slam and reach No. 1 in the rankings.

"I feel relaxed," she told press at the WTA event at Toronto, where she is playing this week. "So now everything, it comes as a bonus. I'm trying to enjoy it."

That includes not allowing herself to get weighed down by pressure, like before winning the 2018 French Open.

"I take it only positive. I take it as a good thing, a positive thing for me," said Halep. "It's coming natural and you just look for it."

But reaching the top brings other types of pressure, and positives. Halep is now among the top Romanian sporting figures, and was greeted by thousands when she returned to the country.

"It's a responsibility in your country. People are following you, and they are coming to support you. You are an example, let's say, for the kids," she said. "It's not easy because you have to share everything with everyone, you feel the pressure from the people, from the country, sometimes—but it's a good thing. Being a champion is the best thing in sport for an athlete. So I'm not going to complain about it."

And while she says she's staying relaxed off the court, Halep is still aiming to improve on court, saying, "Playing on grass, this year I played my best tennis and I was more aggressive. I played a little bit smarter."

Halep is No. 2 in the rankings.
