The country of Monaco is so small—about three miles span its farthest points—that a person can actually walk from one border to the other. But wheels remain the way to get around for the pros. "We sent a car for him, called him, couldn't find him," recounts Zeljko Franulovic, director of the Monte Carlo tournament. He was talking about Novak Djokovic, who was MIA just minutes before a match two years ago. Finally, with the television cameras ready to roll, Franulovic looked toward the court. "And there's Novak," he says with an air of relief, even today. The Monaco resident parked his bike next to the player's bench and started playing.
