You know what they say about tennis: it’s sink or swim out there.

Or is that what they say about swimming?

Either way, Rafael Nadal put that old axiom to the test by diving into the pool and showing off an impressive lung capacity in a video posted to Instagram on Friday.

“🏊‍♂️ 📶,” the Spaniard succinctly captioned.

Michael Phelps in tatters!

Nadal is wisely embracing lower-impact exercise since an ill-timed injury forced him out of the 2024 Australian Open; his last competition ended in a three-set defeat to Jordan Thompson at the Brisbane International.

The 22-time Grand Slam champion nonetheless promised a quick bounce back at the Qatar ExxonMobil Open, which begins in Doha in less than 10 days.

Nadal has suggested that 2024 will be his final season, having competed on the ATP tour for over two decades since turning pro in 2001, and after injuries sidelined him for most of 2023.

Might 2024 indeed be Nadal’s last dance? Or does he have another dive or two left in him?
