Ben Shelton vs. Flavio Cobolli

Fame seems to agree with these two. Shelton and Cobolli have been on the rise this season, as players and personalities.

The Italian has made a name for himself as the “Admin” of the ATP’s social networks. His affable demeanor makes him the perfect guide through the tour’s backstages. His new fame has correlated with a new level of success. The 23-year-old has won his first two titles this season, made a dynamic quarterfinal run at Wimbledon, and cracked the Top 20.

The American made headlines and gossip pages during his tour through Europe with his girlfriend, U.S. soccer star Trinity Rodman. Like Cobolli, the attention only helped his play. He followed a fourth-round run at Roland Garro with a quarterfinal appearance at Wimbledon, and is firmly established in the Top 10. His matches have been packed in D.C. and Toronto.

The two have played three times. Coboli has won twice, while Shelton got his first win this spring in Acapulco. Each match has been close; both of Cobolli’s wins came in three sets, while Shelton’s was in two tiebreakers.

Each has a top tier weapon. Shelton’s is his serve, Cobolli’s is his forehand. Shelton has more overall power, but Cobolli is the smoother hitter and mover. This could be a rivalry to watch in the future, and a high-quality match to watch on Sunday. Winner: Shelton
