  • Champion and Finalist, Toronto: I see a big week for Taylor Fritz (clearly unbiased) after the grass and getting a week on hard courts—he beats Zverev in final.
  • Champion and Finalist, Montreal: Coco Gauff reasserts herself on hard courts, beats Madison Keys in the final.
  • One player you’re monitoring this tournament, Toronto: I'm interested to see how Flavio Cobolli plays—he did great on the grass and feels like he is poised to make a move.
  • One player you’re monitoring this tournament, Montreal: Amanda Anisimova: the landscape has changed by having such a great Wimbledon—interested to see her try to ride the wave of momentum.

  • Champion and Finalist, Toronto: Daniil Medvedev over Ben Shelton
  • Champion and Finalist, Montreal: Coco Gauff over Jessica Pegula
  • Matchup you want to see happen, Toronto: Taylor Fritz vs. Ben Shelton
  • Matchup you want to see happen, Montreal: Iga Swiatek vs. Jelena Ostapenko
  • One player you’re monitoring this tournament, Toronto: Alexander Zverev and Denis Shapovalov: Zverev because it will be his first tournament after his mental breakdown at Wimbledon; Shapovalov, because he recently won Los Cabos without losing a set—can he go one step further at his home event?
  • One player you’re monitoring this tournament, Montreal: Leylah Fernandez, because she was on top form last week, beating top players and winning the title in Washington. She also has big plans for Montreal off the court—her first date—which perhaps will also give her the mental balance she needs in matches.

  • One player you’re monitoring this tournament, Toronto: Holger Rune, after collaborating with Andre Agassi. Will that yield results immediately?
  • One player you’re monitoring this tournament, Montreal: Pegula, in her bid to win three in a row. Also, how does Anisimova respond after breaking through at Wimbledon and coming back to a tournament she made the final at last year? Does she continue her great form, or stumble now that pressure has shifted?

  • Champion and Finalist, Toronto: Ben Shelton over Alexander Zverev.
  • Champion and Finalist, Montreal: Iga Swiatek over Mirra Andreeva.
  • Matchup you want to see happen, Toronto: Alexander Zverev vs. Joao Fonseca
  • Matchup you want to see happen, Montreal: Emma Raducanu vs. Naomi Osaka
  • One player you’re monitoring this tournament, Toronto: Earlier this year Arthur Fils looked poised for a breakout. Some solid showings during the spring had him at a career-high No. 14 and a dark horse pick at Roland Garros. However, a stress fracture in his back suffered in Paris forced him to withdraw, and kept him sidelined throughout the grass court season. Toronto marks his first tournament since May and his first steps toward a return to form.
  • One player you’re monitoring this tournament, Montreal: Emma Navarro’s 24-18 season record—which includes a WTA 500 title—is plenty respectable. However, she hasn’t advanced past the quarterfinals in her last 13 tournaments, and has lost her last four matches against top 10 opponents. With semifinals points to defend in Montreal as well as at the US Open, this marks the start of an important stretch for the American.

  • One player you’re monitoring this tournament, Toronto: Alexander Zverev—I'm interested to see if he gets out of his funk.

  • Champion and Finalist, Toronto: Ben Shelton over Holger Rune
  • Champion and Finalist, Montreal: Mirra Andreeva over Iga Swiatek
  • Matchup you want to see happen, Toronto: Alexander Zverev vs. Joao Fonseca
  • Matchup you want to see happen, Montreal: Coco Gauff vs. Jasmine Paolini
  • One player you’re monitoring this tournament, Toronto: Zverev: The top seed is returning to action for the first time since his emotional Wimbledon press conference, where he spoke about his mental-health struggles. After such a long break from competition (long for him at least), I’m interested to see how he’ll perform. He looked relaxed and happy when spotted with Uncle Toni at the Rafa Nadal Academy—could have an impact on his game?
  • One player you’re monitoring this tournament, Montreal: Gauff: I’m fascinated to see how she’ll deal with the pressure of being the top seed in Aryna Sabalenka’s absence. Even as the No. 1, her draw is not an easy one, especially facing Danielle Collins in her opening match. How she performs against her fellow American could set the tone for the rest of her tournament run, especially with the likes of Paolini and Andreeva potentially lying in wait.
