Move over, David Hasselhoff. Here comes Jannik!

Jannik Sinner joked about his lanky physique after a straightforward victory at the 2024 Australian Open, joking about how he’s been spending his days off after easing into the third round without dropping a set.

“I made it also a little bit to the gym, even if you can’t see it. I know I’m skinny but it’s ok!” he said after dispatching Dutch qualifier Jesper de Jong, 6-2, 6-2, 6-2, refusing to share his exact weight on Margaret Court Arena.

“It’s a secret, guys! Of course, all muscle…I’m happy with my physicality at the moment.

“Of course, it’s the dream to have the Baywatch physicality, but it’s ok!” he added to laughter from the crowd.

Speedos be damned, the No. 4 seed is nonetheless in the shape of his life after a sparkling finish to his 2023 season, one that, led by ATP Coach of the Year duo Darren Cahill and Simone Vagnozzi, featured two wins over Novak Djokovic and a runner-up finish at the Nitto ATP Finals.

Flanked by his famous Carota Boys cheering squad, the 22-year-old opted to kick off his 2024 season at the Australian Open, and is aiming to better his quarterfinal finish from 2022.

“I feel like I have to make a good process, and every day gives me a chance to get better,” he said on court. “This is what I try to do two days ago and also yesterday. Today, I showed a very good level, and tomorrow I have a day off where I’ll try to practice myself into the match rhythm.”

Sinner will next face either No. 26 seed Sebastián Báez or Daniel Elahi Galán for a spot in the second week. Here’s hoping the Melbourne DJ finds a copy of “I’m Always Here,” the Baywatch theme song, to play Sinner onto court for his next match.
