Andreeva Mboko Adelaide Split (1)

“It's going to be very entertaining,” says Mirra Andreeva of her upcoming final at the Adelaide International.

But before preparing, the world No. 8 was at a crossroads on how to wind down from the semifinal stage. The dilemma? Going out for a sweet treat or catching up on her saved shows.

“It's like a chocolate fondant with pistachio sauce inside. And I'm debating whether I should go and have the dessert, or whether I should just should stay in the room and watch some Netflix,” she told press Friday.

Whatever choice Andreeva ended up going with—it sounded like dessert had the edge—the 18-year-old expects to have her hands full Saturday. Awaiting her in the championship clash: 19-year-old Victoria Mboko.

“I felt like she's been playing well, and she's been raising her level tournament to tournament,” Andreeva shared.

“I know that she likes to take the ball early. She likes to be aggressive on the court. She likes to dictate the point as well. She has a great serve.”

In 2025, both took notable steps in their young careers. Andreeva won back-to-back WTA 1000 titles in performances that saw her beat Iga Swiatek and Elena Rybakina during each title run—and world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka in the latter Indian Wells final. Mboko earned WTA Newcomer of the Year honors after climbing more than 300 places into the year-end Top 20 while nabbing her first tour-level crown, also a WTA 1000, in Montreal.

“Seeing her uprise, I think it's motivating for me and I think a lot of young girls out there who want to play at this level of tennis,” the Canadian said of Andreeva. “Yeah, it's just a nice thing to see. She's a super nice girl, and we're quite good friends off the court.”

Mboko capped her breakout season with a second WTA triumph in Hong Kong. With an Australian Open debut looming, the eighth seed improved to 5-1 on the young season after dismissing Kimberly Birrell.

“I think having that many hours on court can help you,” she said. “It can help me in the next round, being in difficult situations, and just generally improving throughout the tournament.”

Mirra Andreeva rolls over Diana Shnaider to set Mboko final | Adelaide Highlights

As for Andreeva, it’s been an important week in reestablishing her game. By brushing aside her former doubles partner Diana Shnaider, the No. 3 seed is contesting a title match for the first time since Indian Wells.

“Honestly, if I could have played tonight, I would have played. Because, I don't know, for some reason I'm so excited to go on court tomorrow,” exclaimed Andreeva.

“I'm just happy to share the final with Vicky.”

This marks the pair’s first WTA meeting after coming up the junior scene together.
