Before Shanghai became a Masters 1000 mainstay, it hosted the tour's season-ending championships. Today, it ends the outdoor portion of the season 10 months after it began. The globetrotting gauntlet hasn't exactly slowed down Novak Djokovic—in each of the years he's won Shanghai, he also won the Australian Open. Nikolay Davydenko, on the other hand, caught lightning in a bottle in 2009. The smooth-hitting Russian had struggled at the biggest events all year, but he used Shanghai's quick conditions to his advantage.
